“Today we are pleased to announce that Scoreloop has joined Research In Motion,” says Tyler Lessard, RIM’s VP of Global Alliances and Developer Relations. “We’re excited that the Scoreloop team is joining the BlackBerry Developer team and bringing their expertise in creating social and collaborative gaming toolkits for mobile developers to the BlackBerry platform.”
As a company that’s been struggling to remain relevant in a word of iPhones and Androids, partnering with a moderately successful social development team like Scoreloop certainly isn’t a bad move – but it’s also not one that’s going to turnaround the company’s sluggish reputation overnight. Still, it should be interesting to see what comes of this down the road. Could this be the step needed to help Blackberry gaming gain the same sort of traction amongst their userbase that Blackberry Messenger did? And will this be enough to entice game developers to give the platform a second look?
