Playdom acquires Offbeat Creations

In it’s latest acquisition, Facebook publisher Playdom has purchased the social game developer Offbeat Creations for an undisclosed amount. Offbeat Creations is responsible for 8 Facebook applications, including Water Balloon Fight and Be a Tycoon. Their most popular title, Super Farkle, has more than a million players.

In it’s latest acquisition, Facebook publisher Playdom has purchased the social game developer Offbeat Creations for an undisclosed amount. Offbeat Creations is responsible for 8 Facebook applications, including Water Balloon Fight and Be a Tycoon. Their most popular title, Super Farkle, has more than a million players.

Offbeat Creations isn’t the first purchase made by Playdom. The publisher acquired both the Facebook developer Green Patch and the iPhone developer Trippert Labs last November. With the $43 million raised in venture capital last fall, something tells me this is far from Playdom’s last acquisition in 2010.

Playdom acquires Hive 7 in bid to buy its way to the top

Playdom acquires yet another social games developer. This time, it's Hive 7, for an undisclosed according to TechCrunch. Hive 7 is best known as the developer of Knighthood, a combat diplomacy game. Acquiring game studios to grow is a good strategy when your valuation is high as Playdom's is now and is also a good way to hire talent. However, it is also a strategy fraught with risk.

Playdom acquires two companies; raises $43 million

On Wednesday Playdom, the social networking company responsible for Facebook hits like Mobsters and Sorority Life, announced that it had raised $43 million in its first round of outside financing. The very next day the company demonstrated how the money was already being put to use by announcing that it had purchased two game companies: Facebook developer Green Patch, and Trippert Labs, an iPhone and social game developer.
