Plants vs. Zombies 2 is out NOW!! (if you live in Australia or New Zealand)

Have you ever woken up in the morning and thought “I’d rather be in Australia?” Kangaroo accidents aside, it’s a pretty sweet place to be – especially if you like Plants vs. Zombies. That’s because PopCap has just soft launched the game’s sequel down under.

Have you ever woken up in the morning and thought “I’d rather be in Australia?” Kangaroo accidents aside, it’s a pretty sweet place to be – especially if you like Plants vs. Zombies. That’s because PopCap has just soft launched the game’s sequel down under.

Why a soft launch, instead of a worldwide release? “We are launching the game a bit early in Australia and New Zealand to help us test out all of the new systems and features we’ve built into the game,” reads PopCap’s official blog post on the subject. “We’ve added a bunch of new features that allow us to take advantage of new technologies to make a better experience for our players, and those innovations require us to perform some large tests to make sure we are ready for our worldwide audience to play.”

There’s no official word on when the game will be trickling out to the rest of the world (the original July 18 release date has since been rescinded), but if the game has is already in the soft launch phase, I wouldn’t think it would be much longer.

If you don’t live in Australia or New Zealand, why not read our hands-on from E3 to see why we think PvZ 2 will be worth the wait? Either that or go and make me a Vegemite sandwich. All of this talk of Australia has made me hungry.
