OpenFeint has strong debut on Android

Android has often been talked about as the platform with the most potential to compete with Apple in the world of mobile gaming, but until recently it lacked the lightning rod needed to attract great games. Android has often been talked about as the platform with the most potential to compete with Apple in the world of mobile gaming, but until recently it lacked the lightning rod needed to attract great games. OpenFeint might just be that lightning rod, and they’ve unveiled some figures from its first two weeks on the platform to prove it.

Of the eight OpenFeint-enabled games launched on the platform, four of those games quickly rose to the Android Market’s top 15 selling apps. Of those four, both Fruit Ninja and MiniSquadron secured the top two spots on the marketplaces in less than 72 hours.

“The past two weeks have proved to us that Android users are hungry for great games – and they’re willing to pay for top quality content. Over the next few months, we’ll continue to roll out games and help establish the paid gaming market on Android,” said Jason Citron, CEO of Aurora Feint, makers of OpenFeint. “We couldn’t be more excited about this latest Android release.”

The second wave of OpenFeint-enabled Android games will be arriving this week, and will include Super KO Boxing 2, Touch Racing Nitro, Penalty World Challenge 2010, Cestos 2: Party Time, SpeedX, Babo Crash Deluxe, Brain Twister Lite, Color Cocktail Lite, DotDot and SkyForce.
