New iOS Games Tonight: Cut the Rope 2, Colossatron: Massive World Threat and more!

Well the holidays are almost upon us now, and there’s only a few short days left before Apple initiates their annual iTunes Connect Holiday Shutdown, closing their digital doors for a week so that everyone can spend some much needed time relaxing and catching up on their growing backlists of games before tons of new ones hit the scene once again. But you didn’t think that some of today’s biggest mobile developers would let the year end without a bang, now did you?

It’s true that 2013 might have very well saved the best for last, as when you’ve got brand new games coming from both ZeptoLab and Halfbrick on the very same day, well then you just know that someone’s been a very good boy or girl this year. So let’s all just kick back and enjoy the very last Wednesday night of big new iOS releases in 2013, because trust me when I say: this one is going to be a doozy!

Cut the Rope 2 – I don’t think I need to sit here and tell you how amazing ZeptoLab’s Cut the Rope franchise is, or what the cutesy physics-puzzler games have truly done to help shape the face of mobile gaming. I’ll just say that when a full-fledged sequel finally hits the App Store, it’s pretty safe to assume that it’s going to be a good one. In Cut the Rope 2, players will actually get to interact with the candy-loving, little green alien Om Nom directly for the very first time, in addition to a quirky cast of new characters known as the Nommies. Also notable is that Om Nom has finally left those self-contained boxes from games of old, and will now be venturing out into all sorts of fun environments like forests, junkyards, and parks. Although I’m not sure how tasty a piece of candy from the junkyard is going to be!

Colossatron: Massive World Threat – From the makers of the iconic Jetpack Joyride and Fruit Ninja comes a modest new game about snakes. Well, only if by “modest” you mean action-packed and exhilarating, and by “snakes” you mean a giant robotic snake death machine that’s hell-bent on world destruction. Needless to say, we’re itching to play this one, especially since players get to control that giant robotic snake themselves and unleash all sorts of snake-based devastation! But of course, since this is Halfbrick we’re talking about here, you can bet your bottom dollar that beneath the explosive bells and whistles, we can find some pitch-perfect gameplay mechanics that are sure to make this another mobile gem that we simply won’t be able to put down.

Abducted: Episode 1Abducted is a brand new episodic horror series from Sunside Inc., and if you’ll allow me to be a bit cliché for a moment, it looks absolutely out of this world. The premise of the game is chillingly simple: you’ve been abducted by aliens, taken to their ship, and now you need to find a way to escape and get home. But of course, something tells me that doing so won’t be all that easy, as players will need to traverse a rich and foreign landscape full of futuristic spaceship parts and struggle with a complicated mystery that begins to unfold the farther that you explore. I remember previewing this one way back in March of this year, and couldn’t be more excited to finally check out this gorgeous blend of sci-fi and horror elements on my touchscreen later on tonight!

The Shadow Sun – Just when you thought tonight’s selection of new iOS releases couldn’t get any more massive, I’m here to tell you that the mammoth mobile RPG adventure The Shadow Sun will also be rounding out that highly impressive package. First intended to see the light of day way back in 2010, The Shadow Sun boasts an engrossing 10-15 hour campaign from the same people who brought you RPG staples like Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate and Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. With over 70 unique areas to explore, 200 items to find, and all sorts of treasures and ancient secrets to uncover along the way, I don’t think I can hit my caps lock button fast enough to let you know that this game is going to be EPIC.
