A new point-and-click adventure game is coming to PC and Mac, helmed by Doug TenNapel, creator of Earthworm Jim and cult-classic claymation creation The Neverhood.

The upcoming project will feature “clay and puppet animation,” as well as all-new characters that TenNapel promises fans will be in his “usual style.” Terry Taylor, who composed The Neverhood‘s soundtrack, is on board to do the music, while Mike Dietz and Ed Schofield, who collaborated with TenNapel previously on both The Neverhood and Earthworm Jim, are also working on the game.

The news (which was posted to The Neverhood‘s facebook page) comes as a pleasant surprise to fans, who were no doubt amiss after plans for a mobile version of The Neverhood fell through, as did designs for a movie based off of the game. In the post, TenNapel reached out to his dedicated fanbase, soliciting suggestions that he promised to try to work into the game:

“What would you, the Neverhood fans, want to see in a new game? We’ll read every suggestion and actually try to make all of the good ideas happen!”
So, if your love of clamation gaming knows no end, head on over the facebook and let him know your thoughts (anthropomorphic nightcrawlers, aside). While you’re waiting, why not try out Clay Jam? It’s a free iOS game that scored a solid 4/5 review from us, and which its creators say was hugely inspired by The Neverhood.
