MekaRoyale Is Exactly What It Sounds Like: A Brutal Battle Royale With Mechs

You’ve got to give it to the team at Illogical: they know how to come up with a nifty name. In case you hadn’t twigged, MekaRoyale is a game about piloting mechs in a battle royale format.

They know how to come up with a nifty game, too. Following a period in open beta, MekaRoyale has just hit the App Store and Google Play, and it looks like a corker.

The aim is to survive battle royale contests against dozens of human opponents, much like in hit games Fortnite and PUBG. The big difference, aside from all the mechs, is how brutal MekaRoyale is.

How so? Because if you’re anything other than the last combatant standing you get nothing, and you lose all the stuff you’ve accumulated into the bargain, including your mech.

Consequently, you always start off as a pilot, an agile fighter with limited firepower and minimal protection. The one upside is that pilots can pick up weapons during rounds, unlike mechs, who have to stick with the ones they started with.

If you can survive a round as a pilot you’ll win enough credits to buy a mech, and with each subsequent win you’ll be able to buy better weapons and more expensive mechs.

And if you can’t survive, well, you’ve lost nothing – unlike the heartbroken owner of the souped up mech for whom failure means losing everything and starting from scratch.

The good news, if you’re you’re struggling to notch up a win as a lowly pilot, is that you can earn credits by completing single player missions, giving you a chance to load yourself up with deadly ordinance with which to take down your mech tormentors.

Pilots can also call in an exosuit to help fight against MEKA – just like in Titanfall.

Thankfully, completing these missions is the only way – short of winning rounds – to acquire credits. While MekaRoyale contains IAPs, these are strictly for cosmetic items.
