LEGO Star Wars: The Quest for R2-D2 (Online, 4 stars): This web-based action game may not have the instant name recognition of the other entries in the LEGO Star Wars series, but much to our surprise, it’s just as good – and best of all, it’s free! Set during the Clone Wars saga, The Quest for R2-D2 tells the story of everyone’s favourite trashcan-shaped droid as he floats around lost in space. Players can play as both the Sith and the Jedi as they race to be the first to capture the little tin can, and with it, the secret plans for a powerful new starship.
Star Wars Arcade: Falcon Gunner (iPhone, iPad, 3 stars): Strap into the gunner seat of the Millennium Falcon and get your lasers primed to fire in this arcade shooter that puts you right in the heat of battle! More than that, though, players in Falcon Gunner can protect their very own neighbourhoods thanks to a camera-based augmented reality mode that will have you strafing Tie Fighters in your own backyard.
Star Wars: Imperial Academy (iPhone, 2.5 stars): Proving once and for all that stormtroopers have terrible aim, Imperial Academy is a free multiplayer first-person shooter game designed by ngmoco, using the same framework as their popular free multiplayer FPS Eliminate Pro. It may not be the best Star Wars shooter on the market, but it’s hard to say no to a portable 4-player blaster-fest like this.
Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures (Online, 3.5 stars): Aimed at a younger demographic (ie the pre-tween crowd that eats us the Clone Wars TV show like candy), Clone Wars Adventures offers up a massively multiplayer virtual world with a veritable cornucopia of mini-games. Duel lightsabers, pilot spacecraft, ride speeder bikes, and more!
Star Wars: The Battle for Hoth (iPhone, 4 stars): Have you ever watched the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back and thought to yourself “those rebels are lilly-livered pansies – if I was in charge, I could do better!” The Battle For Hoth gives you the chance to prove those words right. This tower defense game, set amidst the dull and dreary snow drifts of the famed ice planet, is easily one of the better tower defense games available on the App Store.
Star Wars Cantina (iPhone, iPad, 2.5 stars): If you think Flo has her work cut out for her in Diner Dash, just wait until you see what waitresses have to contend with in space! This interstellar spin on the popular Diner Dash formula takes place in the greatest dive bar in the known universe: the Mos Eisley Cantina.
