Long Gone Lets You Explore a Post-Apocalyptic World, But Without Violence
The environment is the main character

There’s no shortage of post-apocalyptic games out there. But this upcoming title might be worth trying even though it’s stepping into a pretty saturated genre. It’s Long Gone, an adventure title set for release in 2027, for PC. The title comes from Hillfort Games as both developer and co-publisher alongside Outersloth.
The game has been in development for some time now. The devs just released a new trailer, showing a bit of the gameplay. It has a lo-fi 3D pixel style, mixing elements from classic point-and-click games with modern exploration and platforming.
The setup drops you into an abandoned suburban neighbourhood called Corvid Hills decades after an outbreak. In this time, nature has taken over, and whatever’s left of human life is scattered in drawers, cupboards, and dusty corners.
The game nudges you to poke around, open things, read whatever notes you find, and piece together what happened to the people who used to live there. Every object tells a story, and every house hides something, though what you find might be strange, tragic, or sometimes just plain odd.
Long Gone shifts depending on where you are
Outside, it leans into 2.5D platforming, with collapsing streets and overgrown structures acting as both obstacles and pathways. Inside the houses, it opens up into a fully 3D exploration. You can move side to side as well as back and forth through rooms while rummaging through objects.
Long Gone has a lack of combat. Zombies are around, shuffling through the environment, but you treat them like problems to solve. So, that means finding another route. The game offers every encounter as a puzzle rather than a fight.
A small cat named Mavis tags along on your entire journey. She can help spot dangers, guide you toward secrets, and occasionally reach places you can’t. Check out Long Gone on Steam. Might even remind you of Station Eleven!
