Once the dominant social platform, MySpace has been undergoing a period of rebirth lately. It started with their newfound approach to gaming that debuted back in March. Then we witnessed a mass exodus of key players in the MySpace family last month. Today we see the culmination of both of these events, as MySpace has brought some new blood into the organization to manage MySpace Games.

Formerly the head of strategy and business development for social game maker Lolapps, Manu Rehki has just been announced as the new general manager of MySpace Games. “He’ll be a really strong force for us to encourage more game-play and have better relationships with publishers of games and fine-tuning the MySpace system for allowing discovery,” said MySpace Co-President Mike Jones.

Rehki experience on social platforms goes beyond his time with Lolapps. Previous to his position there, he was a Google product manager who was involved in the launch of many of their services, including Facebook’s chief competitor in several countries, Orkut.

But does the appointment of new management really signal a positive shift for the future of MySpace? Rupert Murdoch, Chariman and CEO of MySpace’s parent company News Corp, seems to think the company is getting back on track. While remaining realistic, he came across as both honest about their mistakes and optimistic about their future in a call with analysts on Tuesday; “We’ve got to admit the last two or three years I think we made some big mistakes. But we got new management now, we start to introduce new features, there will be a lot of changes coming through the summer and we have got to judge at the end of this year. The early indications, and they’re only early indications, [are] that we’re getting more visitors and they’re staying longer.”
