Level-5 announces 1,000-hour RPG Wonder Flick
Hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that Level-5 is hard at work on Layton 7 for mobile devices, today we learn that the established developer of puzzle games has another ambitious project already waiting in the pipeline: an immense and highly enthralling fantasy RPG called Wonder Flick. And in case you missed that headline up there, let me just reiterate the fact that Wonder Flick is already being billed as containing “1,000 hours” of role-playing gameplay. Now that’s a lot of zeroes!

In the game, players will create their own hero and set off on a sprawling adventure, as they complete quests, visit towns, and crawl through harrowing dungeons. But now here’s the cool thing about how Wonder Flick is being released: while the game will be making the jump to home and portable consoles in 2014 like the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, a mobile version will also be coming first to iOS and Android devices! The game will then feature cross-save support between every single one of its versions, and each one is said to boast its own unique dungeons and additional content. It also seems that the console versions will utilize a second-screen experience via tablets and smartphones as well.
One of the first released trailers for the game shows off the mobile version of Wonder Flick in all of its glory, and oh what a glory it is! While it still retains the now-traditional markings of a smartphone game in 2013, there is a definitive console quality to the presentation, with full 3D graphics and slick battle animations, and we can definitely see Level-5’s influence in developing the PS3-excluisve Ni No Kuni really shine through here. In each of the bright and lively turn-based battles, players will actually flick their characters on the screen to initiate an attack, hence the name of the game.
And as if all of that wasn’t enough incentive for you to keep a watchful eye on this one already, the soundtrack is also being created by Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu; so yeah, there’s that. The mobile version of Wonder Flick will be a free-to-play game that utilizes microtransactions. It is currently slated for a November 2013 release in Japan, with a Western release date still to be announced.
