This one is inspired by classic action movies and Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Lethal Wedding is an upcoming 16-bit co-op run-and-gun shooter for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive. Also coming to Steam, it has entered its final week on Kickstarter.

And with that, developer Mega Cat Studios has shared the challenges of working within the limitations of Sega’s 16-bit hardware in their latest dev vlog. They’ve already released a new trailer, showing features like ballistic balloon animals, trick flowers that spit acid, and grenade-launching bridal bouquets.

The story is presented through animated cutscenes, wrapped in authentic Genesis-inspired pixel art and backed by a pulsing chiptune soundtrack. Watch the trailer here.

Lethal Wedding is your battle against a clown cartel

It’s about a bride, Joanna, and her extremely dangerous mother-in-law, Shelly. A drug ring made up of criminal clowns crashes a bachelor party and kidnaps the groom-to-be. With no one else stepping up, the bride and her mother-in-law decide they’re going to get him back themselves.

That rescue mission sends them through a world packed with psychopathic circus performers, bazooka-wielding bearded ladies, murderous mobsters, killer clowns, and mafia thugs. You’ll fight through 30+ levels of carnage, while also dealing with family drama, wedding planning stress, and even literal jugglers.

It’s a couch co-op, letting two players tackle the chaos together. There’s also a mechanic called the Vow System. Before entering levels, you can choose optional vows that act as challenge modifiers. Completing these challenges unlocks special rewards, while tougher vows can lead to elite upgrades.

You can equip bizarre tools like the explosive Gun of Roses, the Banana SMG, and the bunny-launching Hare Trigger. Also, you can customise the heroes with over 25 upgrades and enhancements, like Combat Veils and Bulletproof Dresses.

Lethal Wedding is now available on Steam to wishlist.
