LEGO Minecraft is officially going to happen

When it comes to things that go together like peanut butter and jelly, Minecraft and LEGO toys are a no-brainer combination. So it wasn’t surprising when a bunch of fans petitioned LEGO Cuusoo (the branch of LEGO that listens to such requests) for an official Minecraft set. Well, LEGO Cuusoo has finally issued a verdict: The project is a go.

“We’re happy to announce that the Minecraft project on LEGO Cuusoo has passed the LEGO review and we are now developing a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the LEGO system and in Minecraft,” said LEGO Cuusoo on its blog. “We can’t wait to show it to you — but it isn’t ready just yet. These things take time, so we appreciate your patience. More details are to come.”

Of course, information like a tentative release date and what the set will contain has yet to be revealed. Considering how much can be created within Minecraft, it’ll certainly be interesting to see if these tie-in LEGO toys receive regular sets with new pieces (and, maybe, monsters). That seems like a definite possibility, depending on how well the sets sell.
