Kickstarter Picks: Pota-Toss

I threw a potato at my friend once. Hit him right in the head. Twelve stitches, two hospital visits, and one trial later, I learned my lesson – throwing potatoes at people is never a good idea. But while I’ve learned from the error of my ways, the folks at Sabor Studio haven’t quite gotten the message. And they want you to throw a potato at your friends from all across the world in their upcoming game, Pota-Toss.

Pota-Toss will be a multiplayer title that can be played on a single device, multiple devices locally, or multiple devices online. Players will take turns “tossing” a potato at their friends in an attempt to destroy their “potato base.” Different obstacles will be present between your base and their base, such as hilly terrain, meaning you’ll need to toss your potato in just the right way if you want to reach your target.

What will make Pota-Toss unique is how the levels will be generated based on your real world location, which it will pull from your device’s GPS. A gamer in Arizona, for example, may have a backdrop of the Grand Canyon, while his opponent in Costa Rica may be in front of mountains or beaches. The two halves come together to form a unique background for every experience.

The art style for these environments, as well as the potatoes themselves, seem to have an original personality about them. We’d like to see how they look in their final state, but to do that, Sabor Studio is going to need your help.

The team has put together a Kickstarter page for the project, with rewards ranging from a free copy of the game and a signed post card arriving in your mailbox to getting a sponsorship deal to put your name (or more likely, the name/logo of your company) in one of the game’s levels or potatoes. Be sure to check out their Kickstarter page to check out all of the possible options.

Kickstarter Picks is a series of features on Gamezebo that will profile Kickstarter projects in the world of video games. We’re doing this in the hopes of calling attention to interesting projects in need of funding, so please, if a game looks like something you’d want to play, don’t hesitate to lend it your support!
