International iPad launch delayed until late May

Those outside of the US who have been patiently waiting for the launch of the iPad are going to have to wait a little more. Originally promised by the end of April in a variety of countries (and rumored to be in Canada on April 24), Apple has officially delayed the international launch of the popular tablet device until the end of May.

Those outside of the US who have been patiently waiting for the launch of the iPad are going to have to wait a little more. Originally promised by the end of April in a variety of countries (and rumored to be in Canada on April 24), Apple has officially delayed the international launch of the popular tablet device until the end of May.

“Faced with this surprisingly strong US demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May,” says Apple in this morning’s press release. “We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10. We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason—the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far.”

Critical reception to the device has been mostly positive so far, with the sales reflecting the device’s warm reception by the tech community. Apple claims to have delivered more than 500,000 iPads into the hands of customers in the first week alone. With some stellar games already appearing on the device, international customers should have a healthy selection to choose from when the iPad hits their markets this May.
