Hello there, Gamezebo reader! Last time we took a look at OfficeAttacks!, we explored the idea of custom towers, or as we like to call them, the absolute coolest things in the universe. This week, we wanted to shed some light on the method behind the mad science, and give you all an exclusive look at how to make magic.

When we decided to go from making a game with a few custom towers to making a game about custom towers, we knew the challenge would be twofold: keeping things recognizable for fans of the genre, and making our new system instantly understandable. For us, the first task was simple – we just didn’t mess with a good thing. Rather than try to fix what isn’t broken, we infused OfficeAttacks! with genre staples fans have come to know and love. This means a tower select screen, fully upgradeable tower slots, and stats. that can be beefed up using coins you snag from enemies. One look at our screenshots, though, and you’ll surely notice some differences. Like, say, the entire right half of the screen. Say hello to the workshop.

Instead of taking away the mechanics we’re used to, we’ve worked to add them to a system you’ve never seen before. After all, you’re not just choosing the towers, you’re making them. The workshop is our way of mixing the old with the new, and redefining the limits of tower defence. And we think you’re going to like it. Most of all, because of its simplicity.

As you defeat enemies, beat levels, complete challenges, and purchase surprise packs from the in-game store, you’ll be awarded tower parts of all shapes and sizes. After every level, and from the main menu, you’ll be able to visit the workshop. We wanted to make it as simple as possible to get to your parts, as they’re the heart of new towers. And towers are the heart of tower defense, in our humble opinion. Once you’re inside, you’ll be able to browse through your full selection of tower pieces, all sorted by their fuction: are they side pieces? top pieces? Or, if you’d like, by rarity – you’ll encounter parts that are common, uncommon, and rare just like you would in a trading card game.

From here, putting a tower together is as simple as touching the piece you want; we’ll do all the heavy lifting for you. As a general rule, each tower will need a body, a barrel, and in some cases a base. From there, however, the sky’s the limit. Adding on side pieces, top dongles, and any of the other doo-dads you’ve managed to collect will improve not only your tower’s look, but subtly enhance its attack, its defence, and a host of special abilities like poison, freezing, burning, and more.

As the game grows, we plan on finding new ways to reward players for their towers, including online and in-game competitions for the best looking (and best working!) towers, all with in-game rewards like ChaChings and item packs. The goal of the workshop is to get you invested in the towers and the world of OfficeAttacks! at large, so we’ll be doing our best to show you we’re invested as well. By giving away tons of free stuff.

Speaking of giving away, we don’t want dish on all the secrets of the game… just yet. But make sure to stay tuned next week for more exclusive details about how to make the most out of freemium games, and why we think OfficeAttacks! is going to give you some pretty awesome bang for your buck.

And speaking of bang for your buck, we have a slight announcement to make! Due to all the features we’re packing into the game, we don’t want to give you guys anything less than the most polished final product – with everything working together seamlessly. As a result, we’ll be pushing the release date forOfficeAttacks! forward a couple of weeks, and getting the game out as soon as possible in the early to mid-August date range!

You know what that means, right? A couple more blogs to look forward to.
