The start of a new year is the perfect time to get into a new mobile MMO, and IGG has come up with a stellar example in Mobile Royale.
IGG, in case you don’t know, previously topped the charts with multiplayer megahits Lords Mobile and Castle Clash, both of which took the popular strategy MMO genre and applied a ridiculous amount of polish.
Mobile Royale looks like a worthy successor. Set in a rich, gorgeously detailed fantasy world, it sees you building a city, raising an army, making alliances, waging war, and generally behaving like an unbelievable badass.

There are five races in the game, as well as ten clans and a number of unique and distinctive summonable heroes in human, elf, beastkin, and dwarf form.
The format will be familiar to fans of the genre, but IGG has taken things a step or two further with an unusually interactive battle system, which lets choose your own battalions and formations to send into the fray to capitalise on your opponent’s weaknesses, as well as deplying your skills in any direction during skirmishes.
Battles look a little different, too. While most strategy MMORPGs involve watching a party of heroes hack and slash their way through a small area, Mobile Royale contains real, Braveheart-style clashes in which rows of soldiers duke it on on foot or horseback.

You can even summon a dragon to help you reduce your enemies to bleeding ashes, and this very same dragon helps you back at home, too, imparting bonus effects on certain buildings.
Mobile Royale is absolutely packed with stuff to do, whether it be working your way through the engaging story campaign, occupying villages, killing monsters, trading with other players, or indulging in a spot of urban light urban planning.
But the thing that really makes it stand it is the presentation. The character models are super-polished and imaginatively designed while the game world is fantastically atmospheric, with floating cities and airships drifting through the clouds.
Mobile Royale is available for free right now on Google Play and the App Store.
