Yes, you read that headline right. If you’ve somehow missed I Was a Teenage Exocolonist until now, it’s honestly a pretty great time to get it. The game is currently 50% off on Steam, dropping the price from $24.99 to just $12.49.

The Steam sale is part of a special promotion that runs only until July 9th, 2026

The game originally launched in August 2022, and it’s made by Northway Games, with Finji handling publishing. An indie RPG and simulation game, it has a weird-but-super-interesting concept. The game was inspired by other hit titles like Princess Maker.

So, in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, your memories are literally cards. Your friends include aliens and dogboys, and there’s even a vriki living in a gnarltree. The game feels like it’s in the same space as titles like Disco Elysium, Citizen Sleeper, and Road 96.

You spend your entire teenage life growing up in humanity’s first extrasolar colony on the planet Vertumna. Over ten years, you study, explore the wilderness, make friends, fall in love, discover strange alien creatures, learn new skills, and figure out what kind of person you want to become.

Every choice changes your own future and the future of the colony as well. Your memories, friendships, mistakes, and experiences all become collectible cards that stay with you. Every new season throws different challenges at you, and the battle cards you’ve earned can help you solve problems.

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist has a lot to offer

The game has 833 story events, 276 collectible cards, 30 endings, 25 jobs, 15 skills, 10 dateable characters, and 3 alien pets. The story events spread across multiple lifetimes, while the colony jobs range from slacking off as a depot clerk to surveying the Valley of Vertigo.

Meanwhile, the different skills include things like empathy, organization, toughness, and bravery. The romance options involve dogboys, aliens, hot politicians, and cold-as-ice killers. The battle cards come with poker-style rules like Up to your Knees in Mud and Testing on Humans.

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist is available on Steam (PC, Mac, Linux), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. It also supports full cross-platform availability.
