More acquisition news today as we have learned that Halfbrick Studios of Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride fame have acquired Onan Games. The move gives Halfbrick control over Onan’s Mandreel technology, which allows developers to create a game using C++ and then have it supported amongst iOS, Android, Flash and HTML5 without need to recode.

“Onan has created something that is incredibly powerful in such a fast-paced industry,”said Halfbrick CEO Shainiel Deo. “It’s our goal to maximize reach and bring our games to new fans, and we welcome Onan into the Halfbrick family know that they will help us achieve exactly that.”

Halfbrick is no different from most developers in that they want their games on as many platforms as possible. The tricky piece has always been the different requirements needed to make a game both functional and attractive on various devices. iOS and Android do not play nice with one another, and when you throw in Flash and other versions as well things quickly get tricky. Using Mandeel Halfbrick should be able to easily port their game catalog from one device to another, and future games from the studio can be launched on practically all devices and platforms at virtually the same time.

Details of the transaction were not disclosed, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the Onan crew didn’t just go buy themselves a nice island in the tropics. At least now you won’t be surprised when the “Isle of Onanistan” shows up on the map.
