GOG.com brings Activision PC classics back to life
In what is being called a landmark deal for the DRM-free digital distribution movement, Activision is opening up its vault and bringing a wide range of classic PC games to GOG.com. Two games are available now: the 2001 role-playing game Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura (developed by Troika Games) and Sierra’s 1993 point-and-click adventure Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father. Both games are priced at $5.99, and more classic titles will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

"Signing the agreement with Activision is the biggest thing that’s happened at GOG.com since the actual announcement of the service," said Adam Oldakowski, Managing Director at GOG.com. "This is a huge step forward for our site and for digital distribution as a whole, as Activision is one of the biggest publishers in the world with a long history in the games industry."
Oldakowski added: "We’re even happier to bring Activision games back to gamers, as GOG.com is the only place right now, where you can grab the announced titles. We’ve also managed to work on those titles to provide full compatibility with modern operating systems."
GOG.com, which stands for Good Old Games, is a digital distribution portal that specializes in selling classic PC games to customers without forcing them to deal with the hassle of digital rights management (DRM). Once customers download a game, they can install it on any PC, re-download it as many times as they need to, and access the game without an Internet connection.
