Ghost Rider, Cable and more coming to Marvel: Avengers Alliance

I’ve been playing a lot of Marvel: Avengers Alliance recently.  Call it a guilty pleasure, but as a superhero nerd and an RPG fan, I have a hard time walking away from Playdom’s pairing of the two.  Also, their Avengers vs. X-Men mission set has kind of dug its claws into me in that “gotta complete’em all!” way that Facebook games sometimes do.  So last week, I sat down to write up a new article: 5 characters we’d love to see in Marvel: Avengers Alliance.

But before I had a chance to put the finishing touches on it, Marvel went ahead and announced a slew of new content for the game from the show floor at the New York Comic Con – and nearly every character on my list was announced.

In the coming months, players can expect to get their hero on with the following 10 characters;

  • Cable
  • Ghost Rider
  • Moon Knight
  • X-23
  • Daimon Hellstrom
  • Red Hulk
  • Vision
  • Black Knight
  • Captain Britain
  • Psylocke

In addition to the 10 that were just announced, last week saw the announcement of Deadpool (a fan favorite and trophy for those who rank high enough in the current PVP Tournament) and Magick will be unlocked for any players quick enough to complete the current AvX “special ops” mission set.

As if that wasn’t enough, Marvel had a few other announcements in store for fans of Avengers Alliance.  They’ve confirmed that the fourth special ops event will center around Ghost Rider, as he attempts to cure New York of a demon plague set forth by Mephisto.

Marvel has also announced the ninth regular chapter, dubbed “The Syndicate,” will be arriving soon, and that a slew of new costumes are on the way for Hulk, Magik, Rogue, Scarlet Witch, and Thor.  (and yes, True Believers – this includes the debut of the classic Grey Hulk!  No Joe Fixit yet though.)

With more content than you can shake an adamantium stick at, this should be plenty to keep fans interested for the foreseeable future – at least until David Brevik’s Marvel Heroes hits.
