Game Insight knows how to play the long game when it comes to marketing. Between X-Mercs (announced March 2014) and Running Shadow (announced Sept 2013), it seems like they’ve become the master of the tease. To be honest, I’ve been quietly wondering if interest in these titles might disappear long before their actual release.
Not so, it would seem, for Running Shadow. The game has quietly snuck onto Google Play today, and is available as a free download.

A clever mix of endless running and RPG elements, the game marks the studio’s first real foray into a 3D art style. We’ve had a chance to dabble with it, and thus far, we like what we see.
It plays a lot like Temple Run, but I’d be hesitant to call it a clone. If anything, I’d say this feels like the Temple Run sequel that I’d wished Imangi would have made. (Temple Run 2 was great and all, but it felt like more of the same).

Varied environments, mission-based narrative (it’s a runner, though not endless), and what looks like a fairly robust equipment system. Our early impressions are definitely positive, but let’s be honest – we’re only a handful of missions in.
At least we can say this with certainty: it’s absolutely gorgeous.
