Galaxy on Fire to get the freemium treatment in 2012

As far as deep, rewarding space sims in the mobile space go, few have rivalled the popularity of Galaxy on Fire 2. Maybe that’s why they were smart enough to add to their success with the in-app expansion Valkyrie. Or maybe that’s why the game is getting an upcoming makeover and re-release for the iPad 2 and Mac’s as Galaxy on Fire 2: Full HD. But going free? That’s something we certainly weren’t expecting.

According to PocketGamer, developer Fish Labs are working on a new free-to-play title set in the Galaxy on Fire universe targeted for release sometime next year. The game will be multiplayer only, focussing on arena-style player vs player combat. All of the other elements of Galaxy on Fire – epic storytelling and trading – will be left on the cutting room floor.

No further details have emerged yet about the game’s content or what kind of in-app purchases will be supporting the release (if any) , though if it’s anything like other PvP free-to-play titles, one only needs to look at examples like Eliminate Pro and Deadlock Online to get an idea of what might develop.

Keep checking back with Gamezebo for more details on this yet-to-be-named release as they develop.
