Five Nights at Freddy’s fans are an excitable bunch. First they started freaking out over a hat. Now they’re freaking out over the absence of a hat.

Yes, the bear-y iconic top hat that’s been sitting on developer Scott Cawthon’s page since the launch of Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 has disappeared. What does it mean? It could mean the impending launch of a game. It could be a promotion for the upcoming movie. It could simply mean Freddy’s head got chilly and he didn’t want to catch a cold.

Needless to say, the fanbase disassembled the image in record time, but thus far nobody’s spotted any of Scott Cawthon’s usual “tricks” that hinted at previous games in the past. No subliminal messages, no hints revealed when the image of the non-hat is brightened or darkened.

One thing’s for sure: From now on, Five Nights at Freddy’s fans are going to be watching Cawthon’s every move with wide, expectant eyes. Now he knows how the security guards in his games feel.
