Popular Strategy Board Game Flamecraft Gets a Steam Demo

If you liked games like Wingspan and Quilts and Cats of Calico, then chances are that you’d also like Monster Couch’s next title. Another board game adaptation, it’s Flamecraft. It’s a cosy strategy game with magic, adorable dragons, and resource management. The studio just dropped a demo on Steam for Flamecraft.

The game is based on the board game created by designer Manny Vega and published by Cardboard Alchemy. Featuring illustrations by Sandara Tang, it was released in 2022. The game won the Dicebreaker’s 2022 Tabletop Award for Best Board Game.

It’s a turn-based strategy board game for 1 to 5 players. You play as a Flamekeeper, whose job is to help artisan dragons find the perfect place to work while helping shopkeepers and townspeople thrive. It’s a fantasy world where dragons and magic aren’t some rare, mysterious thing.

You gather resources, enchant shops, and build powerful combinations of abilities. You also meet Fancy Dragons, special dragons that can boost your reputation and help push you toward victory. Everything ultimately comes down to reputation points. Earning the highest lets you claim the coveted Master of Flamecraft title.

The game has a bustling shopping district filled with magical stores. Maybe you’ll stop by Gnome Depot to grab iron, pick up fresh bread from Drake of Cakes, or brew strange concoctions at Draconic Tonic. Other locations include Guilty Treasures, where sweets are baked, and Scale Mail Post, which handles enchanted letters travelling across town.

You get different modes to play

Flamecraft includes single-player games, AI opponents with different difficulty levels, custom matches with friends and family, and multiplayer with people from around the world. There’s also an expanded Solo Mode that adds a heartwarming story.

The original world has been recreated as a colourful 3D town full of animated shops, booths, laboratories, and dragons. There are over 70 dragons and 30 unique shops. You can check out the Flamecraft demo on Steam.
