Fighting Fantasy author Jonathan Green to join Gamebook Adventures

Interactive fiction is starting to find a snug home on digital devices like the iPhone and iPad, and the Gamebook Adventures series has represented the best this genre has to offer on the platform (read our review of book #1 to find out why!). Well now the best is going to get just a little better, as Tin Man Games has recently announced that Jonathan Green, contributor to the popular Fighting Fantasy series, is penning the upcoming seventh Gamebook Adventure.

Over the last 17 years, Green has written 7 books in the Fighting Fantasy Gamebook series, including fan favourite Howl of the Werewolf. His entry in the Gamebook Adventures universe, Temple of the Spider God, is expected to hit the App Store in July 2011.

“I can’t really express how big a deal this is for us,” says Neil Rennison, Creative Direcotr at Tin Man Games. “I grew up reading Fighting Fantasy gamebooks and to have one of their most popular authors writing for our series is something I would never have imagined when we started Gamebook Adventures 18 months ago.”

In addition to the Fighting Fantasy series, Jonathan Green has an impressive list of geek writing credits under his belt. From Sonic the Hedgehog, Star Wars, and Doctor Who gamebooks to Warhammer and Pax Britannica novels, Green has been an active contributor to the sci-fi and fantasy community for more than a decade – and he sounds quite excited about this latest undertaking;

“I am delighted to be working with Tin Man Games on their Gamebook Adventures series. In only a very short time Gamebook Adventures has made a huge impact on the worlds of interactive fiction and iPhone apps alike. Tin Man Games is a true trailblazer in the developing field of gamebook apps; they are really pushing the medium, making refinements all the time, and seeing how far they can take it.”

Don’t want to wait until July for some more gamebook goodness? Gamebook Adventures 5: Catacombs of the Undercity is available now, and Gamebook Adventures 6: The Wizard of Tarnath Tor will be arriving on the App Store next month.

Jim Squires is the Editor-in-Chief of Gamezebo. Everything you see passes his eyes first, so we like to think of him as "the gatekeeper of cool stuff." He likes good games, great writing, and just can't say no to a hamburger. Also, he is not a bear.
