There’s quite a bit of overlap between the games on the DAU and MAU lists, and it’s no surprise to see that Zynga is the publisher dominating both charts. Also, as if there were any question about how popular social games are these days, the lowest-ranked game on AppData’s DAU list still sees 1.3 million players a day. How many does first place Words with Friends have? Just a cool 8.9 million.
Though the overall numbers look strong, there is still some troubling data in the monthly activity lists. While some games have managed to post incredibly strong increases in their player base, heavy hitters like CastleVille and FarmVille saw losses of 2.2 and 1.6 million players month-to-month. Even though CityVille continues to hold down the top monthly spot, it seems that the –Ville franchise might be on shaky ground moving forward.
