There’s a certain connection between Studio Ghibli and relaxing adventure games. It’s hard to pinpoint, but I think Europa does an excellent job of it. The whimsical aspects, combined with the artistic landscapes, make for a stunning journey all around.

If you’d like to learn more about Europa, you can visit the game’s official Steam page! There’s also a demo available to play right now to give you a taster of what to expect in the full release on 16th April 2024.

To the Moon!

In Europa, you play as Zee, and you live on a moon with a view of Jupiter in the distance. Surrounded by tall rocky mountains, lush greenery, and aquamarine waters, the world (or moon in this case) is literally your oyster. To me, this game is the perfect blend of Breath of the Wild and the beauty of Studio Ghibli’s works. Everything has a pastel and vibrant hue to it, making every second a joy as you frolic through the meadows and solve puzzles in the expansive ruins.

As a robot, you can even fly across the plaines, giving you a lovely backdrop of Europa as you make your way to the mysterious buildings ahead. You’ll find a plethora of terrains, ranging from rolling hills, to snowy peaks.

One Human Left…

The aim of Europa is to welcome you in to a cosy world, but that doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and rainbows. Zee will need to dig deeper to find out more about the last surviving human on the surface, with the rest of humankind nowhere to be seen.

While the environments are gorgeous, there’s a darker side to it all. Those ruins you’re walking through? They weren’t always like that. However, all those years of being untouched has allowed danger to arrive within. It’s up to you to uncover the truth – maybe you’ll find out why exactly Europa fell?
