Social gaming company Zynga (who you may know as the creators of Mafia Wars, Word Twist and YoVille!, among others) has just announced Scramble Live, a mobile version of its popular word game that allows players to compete live with other users through an iPhone, iPod Touch and Facebook, in real time.

According to Zynga, Scramble Live is a fast-paced casual game that challenges players to quickly find words in a grid. Players use the iPhone and iPod Touch’s accelerometer and multi-touch to rotate the board.  At the end of each round, players are shown how missed words are formed on the board.  The game includes three modes of play:

  • Solo – Play in ladder mode to beat your friends’ scores
  • Live – Play against other users in real time
  • Play & Pass – Play with up to three other people sitting next to you on the same device

“Games are more fun when they are played with real friends, which is why we wanted to give iPhone and iPod Touch users the opportunity to play a classic word game with people they know,” said Zynga CEO Mark Pincus.  “We pioneered the social experience on the iPhone with the launch of ‘Live Poker,’ and we are going to continue to deliver on that promise and leverage the outstanding attributes of the iPhone.”

The Facebook version of Scramble is currently one of the site’s Top 25 games with more than 1 million monthly active users.

Scramble Live is available for $2.99 at a limited-time launch specia price. Regular price is $4.99. Click here to download Scramble Live for your iPhone or iPod Touch.
