EA feels bad about SimCity snafu, offers free games

As anyone who purchased it quickly learned, SimCity had a lot of problems upon release. Its servers couldn’t handle the influx of players, and those issues stuck around for the better part of a week. Customers were — and still are — rather upset. In response to all this bedlam, EA has announced they’ll be giving away a free game to anyone unhappy with their purchase of SimCity. Pretty good of ’em, no?

As anyone who purchased it quickly learned, SimCity had a lot of problems upon release. Its servers couldn’t handle the influx of players, and those issues stuck around for the better part of a week. Customers were — and still are — rather upset. In response to all this bedlam, EA has announced they’ll be giving away a free game to anyone unhappy with their purchase of SimCity. Pretty good of ’em, no?

Here’s how it works: any player who registers their copy of the game before March 26 will have the choice of picking up Battlefield 3, Bejeweled 3, Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Plants vs. Zombies, or (and this is the best part) SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition for free. The games will be distributed through Origin, and anyone underage will automatically receive either Bejeweled 3 or SimCity 4.

But despite this gesture of goodwill, not all is well for SimCity players just yet. EA is currently in the process of re-adding features and upping server capacities, so while we’re nearly out of the woods, it’s going to be a little bit before the game is firing on all cylinders.
