Social game developer Digital Chocolate has announced a major new acquisition in the form of Cake Mania and Tradewinds developer Sandlot Games.

The move comes as Digital Chocolate attempts to bolster its worldwide presence, as Sandlot has offices in both Bothell, Washington and St. Petersburg, Russia. These will now join Digital Chocolate’s current operations in San Mateo, Helsinki, Barcelona, Bangalore, and Mexicali.

“Sandlot has built a great reputation in casual games,” said Digital Chocolate CEO Trip Hawkins. “We love their development teams and we can now expand further in Seattle and Eastern Europe. We expect to be the leading game company in at least five of the seven cities where we now have development studios.”

Dan Bernstein, founder and CEO of Sandlot, will become vice president of Digital Chocolate, which will include managing the Washington and Russia-based offices.

Digital Chocolate is best known for its Facebook games, including recent releases like Millionaire Boss, Army Attack, and Zombie Lane.
