Did Electronic Arts Purchase a Social Games Company Recently?

Rumors are abound that video game juggernaut Electronic Arts (EA) is in talks to purchase a social games company. According to an article by Inside Social Games, EA talked to Zynga about an acquisition, but Zynga wanted more money than was offered. EA has supposedly also approached PlayFish and is in talks or have already purchased them for $250 million and not announced it yet.

Or, maybe not. Gamasutra posted an interview with Electronic Arts COO John Schappert today where he suggests that the hype in social games is similar to the excitement that built years ago around mobile games which turned out to be merely a bubble.

So, did they or didn’t they? Once we know, we’ll tell you.
