I love when two things come together. Take video games and photography, for instance. When these two have merged in the past, it’s usually by putting cameras inside a video game. Just look at The Last of Us Remastered, for instance.

But what if you could put a game inside your camera?

A creation of Dutch artist Daniel Disselkoen, Cucalu takes your two biggest iPhone pastimes – gaming and photography – and merges them into a single project. Players are tasked with exploring their environment to find shapes, photograph them, and have them voted on by other players.

I’ve started fiddling with Cucalu, and I’m comfortable saying “so far, so good.” That said, it seems like an app that will require some patience. Unlocking new challenges is based on the currency “munts,” which you’ll earn when other players award your work… or you can buy more via in-app purchase.

The game’s official site also promises that you’ll be able to “combine your photos into unique short movies,” but we haven’t quite figured out how to do that yet. Hopefully we don’t have to go too far to find it – it seems like it could be a nifty feature.

Cucalu is available on the App Store for $1.99.
