Delicious 2 is in the running for Best Time Management Game and Best Casual Game of 2007 at the upcoming Zeeby Awards. We chatted with Jakko van Hunen, game designer at GameHouse Studios Eindhoven, about what makes Delicious 2 special and why it deserves to get your vote.

Can you give us insights or fun facts about the development of this game?

The first Delicious title did very well and our main objective for Delicious 2 was to not break any of the fun. This proved to be a bit harder than we had anticipated, the old code didn’t make it easy on us and we decided to throw it all away. Delicious 1 and 2 play alike but the system that handles it is totally different.

What makes Delicious 2 special, and why should people vote for it?

Although there are a couple of restaurant management games out there, Delicious has a play style that is different: click management with a bit of arcade gameplay. There are short frantic bursts, followed by little moments of Zen where you can sit back and enjoy the happiness of your satisfied customers.

And, according to the many positive responses from our players, the game is very beautiful and well balanced.

Besides your own game of course, what other games impressed you in 2007?

Of all the games that were released in 2007, I think I played Build-a-lot the most. However, The Phantom Hourglass on the Nintendo DS was the game I enjoyed the most (not really a casual title, but hey… the question didn’t state it had to be).

If you win a Zeeby, how do you plan to celebrate (aside for going to Disneyworld, of course)?

We’ll all wear our polka dot aprons and have lattes till we drop.

Any final words for your fans?

Thanks to all the people who played (and voted for) Delicious 2. With all the games out there it is heart warming to know there are people who pick your game to enjoy themselves with. Thank you for that.

For those people we have the following tip: type "ilovechicks" while playing one of the levels for a cute Easter egg.

And, a Mac version of Delicious 2 is just around the corner (this time not all of the code had to be rewritten).
