Comcast.net Games, the gaming portal of U.S. telecommunications giant Comcast, might not be as well-known as major players like RealArcade, Big Fish Games, iWin and Shockwave, but the company has big plans to evolve the portal into a top destination for casual games.

At the beginning of June, the site rolled out new features including a monthly discount GamePass subscription, daily trivia challenges, avatars and trophies, and hundreds of new PC download and free Web games with the promise of up to seven more (5 Web and 2 download) being added each week.

In addition to sections devoted to Download Games (like Dream Chronicles 3: The Chosen Child, Fishdom, and Plants vs. Zombies) and Free Web games, Comcast’s site offers a healthy collection of online trivia challenges to its 1.2 million-strong member community. Spanning eight channels (Finance, Entertainment, TV, Music, Sports, News, and "Trophy,") the trivia lets players test their knowledge on everything from hot dogs and TV theme songs to famous slogans and world flags – and earn points and virtual trophies for doing so. Members can also submit their own trivia questions.

PC download games on the site range from $9.99 to $19.99. Games that customers download are theirs to keep, even if they cancel their membership. (Unlike some other business models, where you only have access to the games as long as you’re a member.)

People can also sign up for the Game Pass membership for $9.99 per month. There are two big advantage to being a GamePass member: One, all games on the site are $5 off (so, for example, GamePass members would get all $19.99 games for $14.99), and GamePass members receive one free game credit per month, which they can use to download any PC game in the GamePass section of the site.

Customers can test-drive Game Pass with a free 30-day trial. At the end of the trial they can cancel the service, or will start to be automatically billed if they choose to continue as a member.

Players who sign up also receive a personal avatar that they can customize with more than 400 different accessories.
