Champions of Fire Gives Casual Mobile Games a Taste of Big Time eSports

It’s a scene that has probably played out dozens of times already. Little Liam or Mikayla are asked what they want to do when they grow up, and they answer, “Play Disney Crossy Road for a living.” And then the parents scoff and tell them that’s impossible.
Technically, those killjoy parents are correct, but they’re getting closer to being wrong all the time. As evidence, Amazon just announced the Champions of Fire Invitational, a tournament focused squarely on turning casual mobile games into legitimate eSports competition.
Taking place at Paris Las Vegas on December 2, Champions of Fire will feature some prominent gaming personalities from Twitch and other streaming platforms competing for a $30,000 grand prize and $100,000 in overall prizes. Competition will consist of single-elimination brackets in five different games: Disney Crossy Road, Pac-Man 256, Bloons TD Battles, 8 Ball Pool and Fruit Ninja Tournament Edition. Always knew those fruit-slicing skills would someday come in handy.
And unlike the proverbial revolution, Champions of Fire will be televised. Not only will the Amazon Appstore Twitch channel stream the action live as it happens on the 2nd, CBS Sports Network will also air a two-hour highlight show putting an even brighter spotlight on the tournament on December 12 at 10 p.m. Eastern.
Casual mobile gamers, consider this your gateway to seeing your favorite titles get even more consideration for top level competitive play.
“Competitive video gaming has seen huge growth, and we see tremendous customer value in expanding the tournament experience to include the casual mobile games played by millions of people today,” Aaron Rubenson, Director, Amazon Appstore, said in a press release. “The Champions of Fire Invitational will see some of the top gaming pros square off in the same fun games our customers can download and enjoy today from the Amazon Appstore.”
That’s right Liam and Mikayla. Don’t give up on your dream. It’s about to be one step nearer to becoming a reality.
