FarmVille has apparently caused quite a scandal in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv after a city councilor lost his job for persistently playing the popular Facebook game while at work. The firing of Councilor Dimitar Kerin came after several city councilors were caught two weeks ago playing the game during the 2010 budget debates.

According to Bulgarian news site novinite.com (via Kotaku), “the troubled councilor, Dimitar Kerin, has defended himself by saying he was not the only one in the City Hall watering virtual egg plants. He said he had reached only Level 40, whereas Daniela Zhelyazkova, a councilor from the rightist Democrats for Strong Bulgaria party, was already at Level 46.”
