I don’t know why, but I feel like titles of the same genre are often revealed or released together. And today’s the day of platformers! This one is called Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares, and is a 3D platformer. It’s from indie developer and publisher Polycast Labs.

It’s a gothic collectathon, actually

Remember Spyro, MediEvil, and Banjo-Kazooie? Well, Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares reminds me of these games. Bobo brings back the golden age of 90s platformers. It has freeform exploration, big vertical levels, tight controls, and that spooky-but-not-too-scary atmosphere.

The game mixes a really dreamy circus vibe with Halloween aesthetics. In fact, there’s also a Tim Burton-inspired carnival feel running through the whole world. It mixes creepy and cute. Want to catch a glimpse of the game? Watch it here!

You play as Bobo, a handmade jester with a golden heart who was created to entertain people and spread joy. During what should’ve been a normal circus performance, he accidentally opens the legendary Nightmare Chest and releases the DreamMaster. The latter is an ancient being that turns dreams into living nightmares.

That’s when everything falls apart. To fix the mess, Bobo teams up with the floating DreamMask. He has to recover EchoMares, defeat corrupted spirits, and bring laughter back to the kingdom before finally confronting the DreamMaster.

Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares is a movement-heavy platformer. Right from the start, you’ll have a full set of acrobatic abilities. Bobo can double jump, glide using his jester hat, wall-slide, wall-jump, rail-grind, grab ledges, stomp, spin attack, air spin, dive, dash, and chain all of those moves together.

As for puzzles, you get to manipulate the environment, work through complicated mechanisms, and unlock hidden paths. Collectibles are a part, too. You can gather Twilight Sweets, upgrade-driven Nightmare Wisps, rare Voodoo Dolls, and EchoMares that unlock new tents inside the main hub.

Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares is currently available to wishlist on Steam. It’ll launch on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on October 30th, 2026.
