Well that didn’t take long. Earlier today we learned that Big Fish Games had become the first developer in Apple’s App Store to use a subscription-based service for games, giving users Netflix-style access to content for a monthly fee. Now the app has been taken down.

“We were notified that the app was removed,” Big Fish founder Paul Thelen told Bloomberg. “We’re trying to follow up with Apple to try to figure out what happened.”

According to Thelen, Big Fish had worked with Apple for several weeks, ensuring that the subscription payment system met the platform holder’s strict guidelines. Though it was only officially announced today, the app had been available for download since November 18. The app gave users unlimited access to a library of games for a monthly fee of $4.99.

The reason for the app’s removal haven’t yet been revealed. The subscription app is also expected to be coming to Android starting early next year.
