Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference is still in full swing this week, and as part of the weeklong event Apple has awarded 10 iPhone OS applications the Apple Design Award. This new award is meant to recognize apps that demonstrate technical excellence, innovation, superior technology adoption, high performance, and outstanding design.

Of the 10 iPhone and iPad applications selected, a whopping 40% were games. Here’s the breakdown;

iPad Applications

  • Financial Times iPad Edition
  • Flight Control HD
  • Pinball HD
  • Star Walk – Interactive Astronomy Guide
  • Tab Toolkit

iPhone Applications

  • 20 Minute Meals – Jamie Oliver
  • Articles
  • Brushes
  • Doodle Jump
  • Real Racing

As you may have noticed, two of the games were iPhone (Doodle Jump, Real Racing) and two were iPad (Flight Control HD, Pinball HD). What’s more interesting however is that with the exception of Doodle Jump each of these games has both an iPad and an iPhone version available – and Doodle Jump is working on doing the very same thing. I suppose supporting multiple devices fits right into the “superior technology adoption” description provided by the award.

So what makes these games so special? Find out why each was picked by visiting the Apple Design Awards official website.
