First released on mobile in 2019, Fractal Space belongs to the exclusive first-person puzzler club established by Portal, The Witness, The Room, and other bonafide classics of the genre.

As with those games, it’s a lonely, unsettling experience that sees you attempting to reason your way out of an extremely precarious situation.

Except in this case you’re in the most precarious situation imaginable: marooned on a space station.

For better or worse, you’re not entirely alone. Your host is a disembodied voice called I.G., an apparently benign presence whose motivations become increasingly suspect as you solve your way through the campaign and learn more about your past.

Gameplay-wise, Fractal Space sees you exploring and manipulating your environment in countless ways. You’ll use cubes as makeshift steps, angle mirrors to direct beams of light, navigate through portals, and deduce access codes.

But it’s not all puzzle-solving. You’ll also get to blast stuff with your gun, and zip around with a jetpack.

Fractal Space is free to download on iOS and Android, but we recommend forking out for the HD version on Android, which earns its (modest) price tag with a huge number of improvements and additional features.

Fractal Space HD comes with five exclusive Legendary Colors for customizing your taser, higher quality textures, 120 FPS support at 120 Hz, 4K resolution, dynamic lighting, dynamic particles with collisions, and Google TV support.

It’s included in Google Play Pass, too, so you may well be able to play it for free anyway.

Other Fractal Space features include a Speedrun Mode, gamepad support, a customizable field of view, achievements, leaderboards, and cross-save—even if you’re going between the free and HD versions of the game.

And soon, you’ll be able to play an even longer and more complex version of Fractal Space on your PC or console. Check out the demo on Steam. For updates, visit the Fractal Space Discord community.

Fractal Space is available right now on Android (free) and iOS.Â
