Remember Alida, the point-and-click puzzle adventure from 2004? Well, after all these years, it’s getting a sequel called Absolution. The game has been in development for more than seven years by indie developer Cos Russo.

Absolution is launching on September 1st, 2026

It’s coming to Steam for PC. The story revolves around people searching for absolution after messing with some unknown forces. Their experiments created the Entropy, an uncontrollable vortex that’s now pulsing away in the background and threatening the entire island chain.

If you’ve played Alida, you’d know that the game’s central element was a giant, 324-metre working guitar. It was a theme park, where you’d solve puzzles and uncover the mysteries hidden within its vaults. So, obviously, the guitar is part of the central plot in Absolution, too.

The sequel has the giant theme park guitar that has been ripped apart and left floating across an island chain. You explore these fractured island environments while dealing with the dangerous Entropy. But your only way to travel between locations is an old hoverflyer that’s barely holding itself together.

Both Absolution and Alida have a first-person adventure and puzzle. While Alida was a slideshow-style, point-and-click game with node-based movement, heavily inspired by Myst. In contrast, Absolution is a full 3D game with non-linear gameplay.

The graphics have received a huge boost, with photorealistic locations replacing the old presentation style. Every discovery is backed by an original musical score. You can catch a glimpse of it here.

And as you travel around, you’ll run into live-action characters presented through full-motion video. Every one of them is haunted by their own past. As you slowly learn about their personalities and all their little oddities, they might eventually decide to help you out as a way of repaying your kindness.
