I have a massive soft spot for games where every frame has been made by hand. Talk about games like Machinarium, The Procession to Calvary, Creaks, and even older point-and-click adventures. Adding to that list of mine is this new title called A Lost Man.

This game is surely not chasing photorealism. Its hand-drawn-on-paper visuals are what immediately caught my attention. A Lost Man uses grayscale visuals and strong black-and-white contrast, creating a bleak and oppressive atmosphere that fits its themes.

It’s Studio Arkos debut title. After spending four years in development, the game is now out on Steam. With a non-realistic comic-book visual style, it’s designed in 2K resolution at 2560×1440 and supports ultrawide displays at 3440×1440.

Now that I’m done commending the game’s visuals, let’s talk about the actual gameplay and features. A Lost Man is a single-player point-and-click adventure. It was originally written in French before being translated into English.

A Lost Man takes you back to 1916 during World War I

You take control of a lost soldier as he wanders through a desolate countryside, trapped between two front lines. He encounters strange and ambiguous characters, navigates ghostly and damp landscapes, faces sudden bursts of violence, and witnesses mysterious supernatural events.

It kind of reminds me of how games like Amnesia: The Bunker used World War I as a backdrop for horror, or how certain moments in Pathologic feel grounded and surreal at the same time. A Lost Man tasks you to search the surroundings carefully, collect clues, gather items, and solve puzzles to progress through the story.

The full game serves as the first chapter of A Lost Man. It’s a complete standalone story lasting roughly four hours. The devs plan to expand it into a total of five chapters, and the remaining chapters are planned to arrive later as DLC.

Studio Arkos is offering a 15% discount on A Lost Man for the first seven days after release on Steam.
