5 Angry Birds movie-crossover games we’d like to see

Since the highly anticipated Angry Birds Star Wars II from Rovio was finally released earlier this week, all of us here at Gamezebo have been plenty busy flinging our Rebel Birds at the legions of evil Imperial Piggies as we keep making our push towards the ominous Pig Star. But just because we’ve been having a blast from here to the stars, that doesn’t mean we also haven’t been racking our brains to think of some other beloved movie franchises that might make an awesome fit for the Angry Birds treatment!

So get ready to see your favorite irritated avians adopting some new fan-favorite roles, from wizards, to superheroes, to toys in a toy box: let’s just hope the kind folks at Rovio will be listening! And as much as I love a good horror movie every now and then, I ultimately refrained from including my all-time favorite Saw series on the list, because, well, I don’t think anyone would really want to see that. But keep scrolling down to see all of the fan-favorite movie franchises that did make our cut, and be sure to let us know where you’d like to see the Angry Birds series fly off to next down in the replies!

Angry Birds Harry Potter

We’re going to start this list off with a big one: Angry Birds Harry Potter, because the 8-part powerhouse movie series is the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about massive movie franchises like Star Wars. The recently released Angry Birds Star Wars II is being touted as containing the most playable characters in an Angry Birds game to date, but I think if Rovio immersed themselves in the wizarding world full of magic and trolls, then they could easily blow that number clear out of the water. I mean, just try and imagine a big mean green pig who looks just like Snape, or even (gasp!) he-who-shall-not-be-named. And if by some crazy, unforeseen chance that Harry Potter and friends lose a tiny shred of popularity with the masses in the next few years (come on, let’s be serious now), then the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie that’s currently being penned by J.K. Rowling herself would also serve as a great starting point as well!

Angry Birds Lord of the Rings

Now you know I wouldn’t have mentioned Harry Potter without talking about J.R.R. Tolkien’s own fantasy masterpiece close behind, don’t you? In many ways, The Lord of the Rings and even the upcoming second and third The Hobbit movies can be seen as the ying to Harry Potter‘s yang: in that the collective world goes crazy over both franchises (and rightfully so), and the settings of each would make for quite the fantastic Angry Birds game! I think it would be really neat to see the high-tech powers like light sabers and lasers from the Angry Birds Space universe be replaced here with more earthly abilities, like Legolas’ bow and arrow, or the good old-fashioned sword slash. But of course, if we’re going to put all of our eggs into one Angry Birds Lord of the Rings basket, then I think we should start mentally preparing ourselves now for whatever beastly creation the Gollum version of a green pig is going to look like. My precious!

Angry Birds Pixar

It’s no secret that the physics-based puzzling gameplay of an Angry Birds game goes hand-in-hand with a 3D animated movie, as only evidenced by the success of Angry Birds Rio. And given that Pixar is known for making some of the best and most endearing animated movies around, I could easily see an Angry Birds Toy Story, an Angry Birds Up, or an Angry Birds Monsters University tearing up the App Store with all sorts of new character-based costumes for our feathered friends, and a slew of whimsical locations based on actual scenes from the popular films. Or better yet, each episode in the game could be centered on a specific Pixar film, which would not only make everyone happy, but would also give Rovio an opportunity to keep the game up to date and current with all of the new Pixar movies that are coming up on the horizon, like the long-awaited Finding Dory that isn’t set for release until 2016.

Angry Birds Avengers

Okay, so maybe I’m just in the market for a forum to express my utter adoration for Robert Downey Jr. and the Iron Man franchise, but just hear me out on this one for a second. What do you get when you take one of the biggest superhero movies of all time, and mix it together with the biggest selling mobile game series of all time? Why, you’d get one of the most insanely awesome movie-crossover games that even Nick Fury himself would be impressed by! Timed to coincide with the upcoming Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron that is set for release in the summer of 2015, I could see Rovio taking the fresh and exciting superpowers that we saw first introduced in Angry Birds Space and magnifying them tenfold. The red bird would be Iron Man, naturally, the yellow bird would be Thor, and the green bird would be (wait for it) The Hulk! Or if they just strictly wanted to make an Angry Birds Iron Man game, then that’s totally A-OK with me, too.

Angry Birds Matrix

It was a tossup for this final slot between Pirates of the Caribbean and The Hangover Trilogy (okay, not really on that last one), but I ultimately decided to go with the heavy sci-fi trilogy The Matrix, because, well, it’s The Matrix! The main reason why I put myself out on a limb for this one is because when I think of the “no-holds-barred” universe of The Matrix, where literally anything goes once Neo enters the completely fabricated world, then I can only imagine what kind of creative insanity the folks at Rovio could come up with when most of life’s real world restrictions no longer apply. You know that scene where Keanu Reeves dodges those bullets that are flying all around him in slow-motion and effectively manipulates time? Well I want to see an angry red bird in dark sunglasses using time manipulation against those Mr. Smith piggy clones! The only question that remains: will you choose the red egg, or the blue egg?
