We’ve spent the last month looking back at the best games that 2012 had to offer – and we’re pretty sure that you’ve been doing the same.  With that in mind, earlier this month we asked our readers to pick their favorite games from 2012 and to cast their votes for Gamezebo’s 2012 Reader’s Choice Awards.

The 10 choices below were the games that netted the most votes from our readers.  In the case of a tie, the higher position went to the game with the larger average user rating on Gamezebo.  And keeping with the theme of user-driven awards, all of the write-ups below are snippets from actual user reviews!  If you enjoy them, be sure to click through to the original user review and give its author a hearty kudos.

And so, without further ado, I give you the top 10 games of 2012 as picked by Gamezebo’s readers;

news

#10 – The Walking Dead (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad)

“If you are looking for a zombie killing adventure, this isn’t it. If you want an interesting game where your choices effect the outcome and is based on a great comic book/TV series – then you can’t go wrong with this one!” User review by Mojotokin

news

#9 – Devil’s Attorney (iPhone, iPad, Android)

“Determining when to use your action points on skills and power-ups gained from office purchases in the vanity, materialism, and decadence categories and on what—the opposing counsel, evidence, or witnesses—is really absorbing.” User review by arielle221

#8 – Mayan Prophecies: Ship of Spirits (PC, Mac)

“One of the most well-constructed games I’ve played in a long time. Wondrous graphics, a story that mixed reality with ancient lore, levels of difficulty, tons of activities, accessible achievements.” User review by shorenuf

news

#7 – Sylia – Act 1 (PC)

“Fantastic game, it’s just so refreshing to play with animal characters instead of the usual run-of-the-mill characters… The plot is very surprising and will keep you wanting to play until the end of the game. Can’t wait for Act II!” User review by Joao21

news

#6 – Moonchild (PC)

“This game will take you on a emotional yet fun adventure about a mom doing everything she can, using all her powers and being supported by the most unusual friends in order to rescue her abducted daughter. … With quests to complete, cool places to visit and 9 characters to play with. Moonchild is that RPG that you won’t want to miss.” User review by D-Squall

news

#5 – The Book of Legends (PC)

“The Book of Legends is one of the most awesome games I’ve played in a while and for me one of the best in the growing range of Aldorlea games.  Not only is it a joy for the eyes due to its gorgeous artworks (character artworks as well as monsters), it also provides a very unique gameplay experience.” User review by Cassiopeia

#4 – Otherworld: Spring of Shadows (PC, Mac, iPad)

“Playing Otherworld: Spring of Shadows is like having a wonderful dream and never want to wake up. The scenery is so detailed like you just jumped into a jigsaw puzzle. I can never get enough of the lush greens and the endless field of flowers.” User review by iseedeadpeople1412

#3 – Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android)

“Wow this was an excellent adventure!! Beautifully drawn, bright, colorful and incredibly detailed. Loved the talking pirate skeletons.” User review by krystal850

news

#2 – Angelica Weaver: Catch Me When You Can (PC, Mac)

“Wow! I just finished playing this game and I have to say… I loved every second of it! It’s rare to play a game that I cannot find fault with, but this, I think, is one of them. From the crisp, wonderful graphics, to the puzzles and HO scenes, this was definitely a 5/5 game for me. I loved when her visions take you back in time to London in 1888, and then forward to present day Chicago. It was almost like getting two games in one.” User review by drippingstars

#1 – Botanicula (PC, Mac)

“Amanita’s games are like nothing else around. Whether it’s gnomes, robots or plants and insects, you get totally immersed in the world of their strange, endearing little critters. I think this is Amanita’s tour de force… it has the visual and audio magic of all their games honed into something close to stunning perfection. Game play is open-ended, allowing you to wander freely into nooks and crannies where clicking on almost everything makes something happen.” User review by boochie54
