Viridi, from Ice Water Games, is a plant-growing simulator. Oh, but it’s not just any old gardening sim. Here you get to grow succulents – in real time!

I know it sounds like I’m being sarcastic, but that’s only partially true. Yeah, okay, the idea of growing your own planter full of succulents isn’t an exciting one (by any stretch of the imagination). However, doing it in real time is an interesting concept. This does mean that it’ll take several days before you start to see any significant results, but it also means that you don’t have to worry about watering them every few hours.

Viridi is also meant to be more zen-like than anything. You start by choosing a pot, then select an assortment of plants. After that you just need to check in on them from time to time, seeing if they need water or if you need to pluck out any weeds. Though if you’re feeling particularly adventurous you can watch a snail lazily crawl along the perimeter. It is a cute snail.

That’s about all there is to report at the moment. You plant succulents and wait, occasionally giving them a spritz of water and sometimes tapping weeds. It’s not a thrilling task but it’s not really intended to be.

A full review of Viridi is inbound (believe it or not), but until our succulents have grown a bit more it’s going to have to wait.

Just a guy who likes to play video games, then tell people about them. Also a fan of the indie development scene.
