Videos demonstrate Vessel’s unique “liquid physics”

Water is just a pretty background decoration in most video games, but in Vessel it becomes a key part of the gameplay. Created by indie developer Strange Loop games in collaboration with indiePub, Vessel features “liquid physics” gameplay, which is a fancy way of saying you’ll be using realistically simulated liquids such as water, lava, glowing goo, and more to solve puzzles.

The game stars Arkwright, an inventor whose inventions – liquid creatures known as “Fluros” – have gone berserk and started disrupting machinery throughout the world. To put things right, you must guide Arkwright through four different worlds using his unique liquid-based inventions (such as a jet pack that can suck up water from the environment and spray it back) to destroy the Fluros and fix the machinery that the Fluros are disrupting.

Each Fluro’s body is made up of simulated fluid (including water, lava, glowing good, and chemicals) that provides them with unique abilities including melting, reforming, mixing with other types of fluid, and re-growing lost limbs. Players must decide how and where to bring this fluid to “life” in order to solve various environmental puzzles.

Check out this in-depth video, narrated by one of the game’s developers, which shows off some of the neat things you’ll be able to do:

Vessel will be available on PC for $14.99 via Steam and the developer’s website, StrangeLoopGames.com. Versions for Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network are also planned.
