Get ready to save a planet in Starlight Story

Starlight Story, the upcoming browser-based MMO from Aeria Games, will set players off on a race to save a slowly-dying planet from its inevitable doom.

The world of Starlight Story is a wondrous place, filled with both magic and technology, constantly competing for dominance. There’s just one problem: It relies on a “finite natural resource” to survive, and that resource is running out. The absolute destruction of the entire planet looms, unless players can find a way to fend it off.

Starlight Story

Starlight Story looks to be very combat-heavy, with collectible pets playing a big role in the action. Mounts will be present, as you’d expect from an MMO, but rather than serving as merely a glorified taxi service, they’ll boost player stats and stay active even during combat. Most interesting of all, players will be able to undertake “Superstar transformations” that allow them and their pets to take on the form, and many of the significant powers, of previously defeated enemies.

It all happens from an isometric perspective, with a very distinct anime-like visual style that could have been lifted straight out of a Japanese Saturday morning cartoon. (Assuming Saturday morning is the big cartoon time in Japan.) Players will begin the game as one of five unique classes, from Surgeon to Shaman, each of which can later be taken into one of two more specialized classes. And since you can’t save the world every day, players will also be able to go head-to-head in Arena duels in either single combat or three-on-three team-based action.

Starlight Story will be free-to-play and browser-based, which I suspect we’ve already mentioned, meaning that no download will be required – just start up your browser of choice, then jump into the action and play. No release date has been set but applications for the closed beta are currently being accepted at starlightstory.aeriagames.com.
