SpongeBob’s Super Bouncy Fun Time Preview

Despite the series being around for nearly 13 years, and despite the fact that I’m in my thirties, I’m only just now discovering how fantastic SpongeBob Squarepants is. My kids have introduced me to the show, and I’m absolutely hooked. I’ll even watch it when they’re not around – it’s just that funny. But for all the episodes I’ve watched in the last year, I can honestly say I’ve never seen SpongeBob look quite like this.

SpongeBob’s Super Bouncy Fun Time is a little bit Angry Birds, a little bit Peggle

SpongeBob's Super Bouncy Fun Time

Nickelodeon’s upcoming iOS game SpongeBob’s Super Bouncy Fun Time ditches the traditional SpongeBob art style, instead embracing a wacky, over the top, straight-out-of-Japan look. It’s like something between Chibi art and Hello Kitty, and it’s all smiles and flashy colors. Though I suppose with a name like “Super Bouncy Fun Time,” we shouldn’t be all that surprised by the Japanese television influence.

The look of the game is actually a surprisingly good fit for the SpongeBob series. Wide-eyed SpongeBob looks like he was born for it, and Patrick has never looked cuter. And the game also features original voice work from Tom Kenney, so fans of the show will still have something familiar to hang on to in the presentation.

SpongeBob's Super Bouncy Fun Time

We’ve had a chance to go hands on with the game briefly, and in our experience, SpongeBob’s Super Bouncy Fun Time could best be described as Angry Birds meets Peggle. Players will be given a set amount of shots to try and knock all of the jellyfish off the screen, and once they’re hit, they’ll bounce around in a pachinko inspired manner through 100 levels of puzzling fun. We don’t want to say too much until our review, but trust us, Super Bouncy Fun Time is in fact a super bouncy fun time.

SpongeBob’s Super Bouncy Fun Time will be hitting the App Store on February 15th. Don’t want to wait to enjoy some SpongeBob on your favorite mobile device? Why not pass the time with the sublime SpongeBob Marbles & Slides?
