How to Play

  • Heart: Health is handled through a standard “heart system”. As you move around the landscape, monsters will fill the pages.  As they come in, if you are touched by them, their projectiles or other tricks, you’ll be docked a heart.  Lose all three of your hearts and you’re dead.
  • Lives: Right next hearts are your lives.  Once you use them up, you’ll have to restart the level from scratch.
  • Weapon: In the bottom right hand of the corner you can view the gun that you are currently using.  The first guy is a straight shooter with one continuous bullet.  As you play the game, it can be upgraded to be better and better.
  • Special Weapons and Abilities: Along the bottom of the screen are your special weapons and abilities. These can be activated at any time during your mission and have a limited duration.  The first one that you own is a bazooka, which kills swaths of enemies that are clumped together.
  • Timeline: Right at the top of the screen is a level progress bar, where you can see how far you are from completing the level.  I would not advise looking at this. Keep your eyes in the game so you don’t get hit!

  • Coins: Every so often, as you kill baddies, they will drop coins.  They are not automatically added to you, though.  You have to walk over them to collect.
  • Movement: The game is controlled by your finger over your little shooting hero.  As you can see, there are two pages on the game board. When you are on the left hand side of the page, he will face the opposite page and start shooting.  As you move over the divider, he switches  the side that his bullets will be going towards.

  • Heart Drops: Luckily, one of the drops that you can receive are hearts.  So, while you have three hearts starting out, if you get hit you do have the opportunity to pick up some hearts to recharge.

  • Death Help: If you use up one of your lives, one of the bonuses is that your ghost will come back and assist you.  The level will back up a bit in the timeline, and then your ghost (the actions that you did during that part of the timeline) will come in and replay what you did previously.  It adds some firepower and gives you a chance to get your bearings back a bit.

  • Bombs: Another random drop of your enemies are bombs.  These are super helpful when things get hectic.  Simply walk over the bomb and watch it blow a nice chunk of enemies to pieces in a powerful area of effect attack.  These won’t go away, so it is best practice to wait until a big pack of enemies is coming, and then step on the bomb to take them out.

  • Sidekick: Once the early bonuses that you can get in the game is a sidekick.  The sidekick is activated in the special weapons and abilities portion down near the bottom of the game screen, and will provide support for a limited time.  Great to have extra firepower when things get dicey!

  • Equipment Selection: Prior to starting a new level you have the option to select the weapons and tombstone abilities that you would like.  On the left, you’ll see all the default weapon options—as you go down the line, the more powerful (and expensive) the weapons get.  In the middle you’ll see all your available special weapons and abilities, and finally on the right you’ll see your “tombstone” bonuses—the bonuses you get for dying.

  • Chance: One of the last type of drops that you can get from your enemies is a “chance game” token.  They are blue pieces of paper.  At the end of a completed level you will be brought the above screen. From there, you’ll have four options to choose from.  All four of the options will feature a coin bonus of various value, or a special weapon.

  • Game Shop: As you play through the chapters of the game, you’ll accrue some coins along the way.  The coins can then be spent on weapon upgrades, new special abilities, better sidekicks and tombstone abilities.  Alternatively, you can purchase coins in the game store for real-life cash.

Tips:

  • Stay on Top of Updates: Updates to your main weapon are absolutely critical.  As you progress through the game, the types of enemies get smarter and there are a lot more of them.  Make sure you are sending your coins on your base weapon—this is what you’re going to be using most of the game.
  • Space out Your Special Abilities: Don’t go Rambo right off the bat.  Settle in and space out your special abilities so that you are progressing through the levels at a nice consistent pace.  Firepower is important, but making sure you have enough throughout the level is paramount.
  • Stay Low: Try to keep your player as low as possible so you’re hand is not getting in the way of the action.  By staying at the lower level, it might expose you a bit more to enemies coming into the world, but the alternative is having your wrist in the way and flying a bit blind.
